- Neuroretinitis (NR)
Neuroretinitis refers to a disease affecting the eye which encompasses inflammation of the optic nerve and the surrounding retina. Protheragen is able to provide a complete scope of services for diagnostics and therapeutics development for Neuroretinitis due to the industry's most advanced platform and an exceptional technical team.
Vision loss along with retinitis inflammation and optic disc swelling with macular star exudates is called neuroretinitis (NR). NR is usually linked with severe vision impairment and can be unilateral or bilateral. The condition can occur with or without a known cause, or associated with infectious and autoimmune pathogens, such as cat scratch disease (CSD) caused by Bartonella henselae and viral infections. Vision impairment occuring with swelling of the optic disc and macular exudate in a star shaped pattern is what Neuroretinitis is.
In the context of neuroretinitis, molecular diagnostics are important for therapeutic development. With the advancement of molecular techniques, specific pathogens related to NR, such as Bartonella henselae in certain cases of CSD, have been detected.
Antibiotic Therapy
In the context of Bartonella henselae-related non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), therapeutic with doxycycline has proven effective in resolving optic disc swelling alongside improvement in visual acuity.
Corticosteroid Therapeutics
For NR of unidentified origin, systemic corticosteroids are commonly administered to reduce inflammation and aid recovery.
Immunosuppressive Agents
For frequent or stubborn cases, immunosuppressive agents might be considered. Such agents include but are not limited to azathioprine or mycophenolate mofetil as these agents facilitate modulation of immune response to reduce inflammation from recurrent cases.
Protheragen provides a full range of services including Neuroretinitis diagnostic procedures and therapeutics development. Our modern facilities, coupled with our specialized knowledge in molecular biology, immunology, and pharmacology, put us at the forefront of NR therapeutics development.
Disease Models of Neuroretinitis (NR)
In Vitro Models: We perform cell cultures to test the activity of antibiotics and the inflammation-mediated actions of corticosteroids and immunosuppressive drugs.
In Vivo Models: We have developed and optimized certain in vivo models so that relevant biological interventions can be performed and the impact can be assessed. We employ animal models of NR to examine its natural history and the effects of different therapeutics on the visual and retinal structure-function relationships.
Protheragen's preclinical research services offer a robust platform for evaluating new HSK diagnostics and therapeutics. Our state-of-the-art facilities and expert scientific team conduct comprehensive studies to assess the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of novel agents.
