Ocular Tissues

Ophthalmic disease tissue samples refer to the diverse range of biological materials harvested from the eyes of patients undergoing surgical interventions. This can include vitreous humor, retinal membranes, corneal tissue, and other ocular structures affected by pathological processes. These samples contain a wealth of information encoded in their molecular makeup, cellular composition, and structural features, providing invaluable insights into the etiology, progression, and potential treatment strategies for various eye diseases.

Protheragen is committed to providing the highest quality and ethical ophthalmic tissue samples from human or animal sources to support the development of eye disease drugs and therapies. Our comprehensive product offering includes frozen tissue blocks from healthy individuals and patients with eye diseases to meet the different needs of our customers.

Types of Ocular Tissues

FFPE Tissue Blocks

These FFPE (formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded) tissue blocks are ideal for histologic analysis and are commonly used for diagnostic purposes in pathology.

Fresh-Frozen Tissue Blocks

Preserved by rapid freezing in liquid nitrogen, these tissues maintain their structural and biochemical properties, making them suitable for a wide range of molecular and cellular analyses.

Optional Specific Tissues

  • Retinal Membrane Samples
Proliferative membranes that develop on the surface of the retina are hallmarks of various ophthalmic diseases, including diabetic retinopathy and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Protheragen's retinal membrane samples are obtained during specialized surgical procedures and expertly handled to enable downstream analyses focusing on the cellular, proteomic, and genetic characteristics of these pathological structures.
  • Corneal Tissue Samples
Disorders affecting the cornea, such as keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, and infectious keratitis, can severely compromise visual acuity. Our corneal tissue samples, harvested during corneal transplantation or other corrective procedures, provide a valuable resource for investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying these conditions and exploring potential treatment strategies.
  • Other Ophthalmic Tissue Samples
Whole eye (Intact) Iris ciliary body Sclera
    Aqueous humor Lens Various glands
    Choroid Optic nerve Vitreous humor
    Conjunctiva Optic nerve head Others
