Central Nervous System Evaluation
Central nervous system (CNS) evaluation can help determine the potential adverse effects of drugs on the CNS and is an important step in the safety evaluation of new drugs. With years of experience in rare disease therapy research and development, our company's central nervous system evaluation services are becoming more and more mature, and we provide end-to-end high-quality services to promote the research and project goals of our global clients. Whatever your requirements, we will work closely with you to develop a custom solution.
Introduction to Central Nervous System Evaluation
The ICH S7A safety pharmacology guidance document states the requirement to evaluate the effects of drugs on the central nervous system, including effects on motor activity, behavioral changes, coordination, sensory/motor reflex responses, and body temperature. The central nervous system controls the body's use, thinking, emotions, consciousness, immune system, and neuroendocrine system, and is important for maintaining life. Therefore, during drug development, attention needs to be paid to the side effects of drugs on the central nervous system. In addition, CNS evaluation can help determine the safe dosage range of drugs used in the CNS.
Methods of Central Nervous System Evaluation
Irwin Test
The Irwin Test is an observational method that allows for multiparametric assessment of nervous system function, commonly performed in rodents. Parameters assessed by the Irwin Test include, but are not limited to, convulsions, death, changes in coordination and balance, fear, aggression, analgesia and reflexes.
Functional Observation Battery
Functional Observation Battery (FOB) is optimized and developed by Irwin Test . Experimenters observe changes in body behavior, sensation/reflection and other functions, quantitatively score corresponding indicators, and evaluate the impact of drugs on the central and peripheral nervous systems of the body.
