Skin organoids enable the reproduction of intricate skin tissues and cellular components in a living being, thus serving as an elaborate model organ for sophisticated medical research. Protheragen has spearheaded the application of organ modeling via organoids to skin specific diagnostics and therapy inventions and innovations for rare skin disorders.
Introduction to Skin Organoids
Skin organoids are three-dimensional multicellular constructs that have the capability to physically reproduce some of the human skin's physiology and structure. These models result from stem cell cultures where strict conditions have been set for the selected stem cell to differentiate into various forms of skin tissues. Organ-derived skin organoids permit adequate in vitro simulation of numerous skin pathologies because of its precise arrangement and construction of the epidermis and dermis, hair follicles, and seum-producing glands.

Advanced Skin Organoids for Skin Diseases
- Skin cancer models: Skin organoids can model the whole spectrum of skin neoplasms including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, and merkel cell carcinoma. They serve as a valuable source of information on tumorigenesis and cancer cell differentiation in artificial, but in vivo-like conditions.
- Genetic skin disorder models: iPSCs from afflicted patients or healthy donor with gene editing capabilities allow the modeling of genetic skin disorders such as epidermolysis bullosa, which can then be studied on a human level so that potential therapies can be devised.
Research Applications of Skin Organoids
Skin organoids present tremendous potential for human skin modeling and drug development, as their versatility allows for novel approaches to studying and treating skin disorders.
Disease Modelling
The cellular basis of skin disease can be studied through targeted gene knockout in organoids. Furthermore, organoid iPSCs from afflicted patients can be utilized to study the pathology on a cellular and molecular level.
Drug Screening
Skin organoids can be subjected to multi-sample testing at an accelerated rate. It speeds up the testing of different therapies, including drugs for genetic diseases and skin cancer, making the screening process easier.
Our Services
Protheragen is dedicated to the creation of organoid models for skin disorders research. Using 3D cell cultures, we model the skin's unique architecture and systema physiology. Our organoid models are designed to cater to the specific needs of our clients.
Workflow of Skin Organoid Development
Cell Collection and Preparation:
Samples are obtained from patients or healthy volunteers and processed for culture, including skin constituents such as keratinocytes or skin specific iPSCs.
Organoid Culture:
Utilization of previously described organoid tissues by 3D printing them for growing and development, simulating the structure and functionality of human skin.
Model Optimization:
Organ cultures are further transformed to represent and model particular skin diseases or conditions via changes of culture conditions or site-directed genetic alterations.
Validation and Application:
The constructed models should be validated on the level of cells though functional assays and molecular assays before they can be utilized in research, drug screening, or disease modeling.
