Overview of Geotrichosis
Geotrichosis is a rare opportunistic infection caused by fungi, and it primarily affects immunocompromised individuals, such as those infected with HIV/AIDS, cancer individuals, and individuals who have undergone organ transplants. This same fungus which disease manifestations as other common pathogens like Candida species, has a wide range of appearances like pulmonary, cutaneous, gastrointestinal, disseminated, etc. forms of infections.

Pathogenesis of Geotrichosis
Geotrichum is a yeast-like fungus that can be found in a variety of locations such as soil, water, and dairy products. Organisms can be contracted through inhalation or ingestion of spores and as a result can form multi-faceted infections such as pulmonary, cutaneous, and gastrointestinal systems spread throughout the body. Fungus infections pose a much higher risk to immunocompromised individuals because the spore can transit from the primary infection site to other organs, further complicating the infection.
